Release
Mustard Seed Jersey is delighted to announce
that 230 Welcome Boxes have been received for the repatriated victims of people
trafficking in the Bihor county of Romania.
The total of 230 is comprised of 88 boxes for
men, 63 boxes for women and 79 boxes for teenage girls. It is the first time
the charity has asked the public to pack welcome boxes as a Lenten project, and
they are well pleased with the result. The public packed fewer boxes for men,
but the charity volunteers (aware of the need) used donated money to pack male boxes so there would be sufficient.
As a general rule the Welcome Boxes contain
toiletries and underwear. Sadly often when victims return to Romania they have
lost everything and have only the clothes on their backs, so the boxes are very
much appreciated.
Rose Helie (founder
and co-ordinator) and Hilary Lambert (trustee) plan to travel to Romania next
week and expect to speak to the social worker who works with the repatriated
victims and learn more about the present situation. In December, thanks to a
donation from the Rotary Club of Jersey, and under the guidance of the social
worker, sufficient food parcels were packed to give to each of the victims in Bihor county.
The charity wants to thank every person and
group who packed a welcome box and donated money.
Any late Welcome Boxes are welcome and will
be sent on our autumn trailer.
